Photography & Filming

Guidelines for taking photographs and filming at GCGL matches and events.

Why These Guidelines Matter

Photography and filming are a normal and enjoyable part of youth football — capturing memories for families and clubs. However, because our league involves children and young people, we have a responsibility to ensure that images and footage are used appropriately and do not put players at risk.

These guidelines apply to everyone at GCGL events: parents, spectators, club officials and media.

Parental Consent

Clubs must obtain written consent from parents/guardians before taking or using photos of their child

Consent should specify how images will be used (e.g. club website, social media, press)

Consent can be withdrawn at any time — clubs must act on this immediately

If a parent has not consented, do not photograph or film their child

What IS Permitted

  • • General match action photography
  • • Team group photos (with consent)
  • • Trophy/award presentations
  • • Filming by registered club photographers
  • • Images for club websites and social media (with consent)

What is NOT Permitted

  • • Photography in changing rooms or toilets
  • • Filming from behind the goals
  • • Images published without parental consent
  • • Photos that identify a child by name alongside location
  • • Sharing images on unmoderated social media groups

Social Media Guidelines

Only post images of players where full consent has been given

Do not tag children by name in social media posts

Avoid posting images that reveal a child's location, school, or home area

Club social media accounts should be moderated and monitored

Remove images promptly if a parent requests it

Reporting Concerns

If you see someone taking inappropriate photographs or filming at a GCGL event, please report it immediately to the team manager or Club Welfare Officer. Do not confront the individual yourself.
